The Collaborative Fort Worth
Located on the eastside of Fort Worth, Woodhaven is home to a diverse community notable for its striking income disparity. The community is home to a sizable population of very low-income renters concentrated along the neighborhood’s southern and eastern edges as well as much more affluent neighbors who live in large, single-family homes along lower-density, tree-lined streets. Interface’s task was to engage the community, along with elected officials, other City departments, and developers active in the area to establish shared values and a vision for the reuse of a vacated golf course along with a suite of complementary strategies for neighborhood revitalization.
The plan grappled with issues of housing, density, mixed use development, multi-modal connectivity, recreation, natural resources, and community services and programs. The community engagement approach welcomed residents of all ages and walks of life into the process and successfully established common ground among different groups of neighbors.
