A data-driven campaign to raise funds for priority investments in Pittsburgh’s parks
We worked closely with the City of Pittsburgh’s Department of Public Works to assess the condition and history of capital improvements for each park in the system. We then blended the site-specific data on park need with a range of community context data indicators to prioritize capital improvements in the parks and neighborhoods that need it most.
Policy recommendations for improved systemwide maintenance and rehab practices complemented the priority recommendations for capital improvements, and the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy used the plan to successfully win a 2019 park tax referendum that raises an additional $10 million per year for Pittsburgh’s parks and plan implementation.
