A city-wide database of industrial activity and a strategy for the City’s industrial land
Philadelphia’s inventory of viable industrial sites is both limited and constrained, and industry is increasingly being priced out of the city as market pressures grow. As the poorest big city in America, Philadelphia is focused on creating good paying jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities that are accessible to residents in neighborhoods across the city.
The Process: Lots of time in the field and mapping. Our team engaged with local business leaders, city representatives, partner organizations, nonprofits and more. To respond to potential market opportunities, our work identified a “missing middle” of industrial building types and created designs to support small and growing businesses. We developed actions to improve the look and feel of industrial districts, integrate green space and reposition older industrial sites for new industrial businesses.
Results: Just finished! Coming soon – adoption, zoning changes, marketing, and new investments.
