Montgomery Downtown Action Plan

A block by block “business plan” for Montgomery’s Downtown

The community-driven effort identified targeted investments to help reconnect Downtown Montgomery, which today is characterized by too many parking lots, parking structures, government buildings, and unused spaces.  Developed with extensive input from Downtown leaders and residents, the action-oriented plan seeks to boost tourism, create new housing, and activate Downtown spaces.  

The plan illustrates a comprehensive trail network to connect Downtown with Maxwell Air Force Base, a new recreational “whitewater” park, the riverfront, a Cypress nature preserve, Alabama State University (an historic HBCU), and civil rights monuments including those spearheaded by the Equal Justice Initiative.
