    Brewerytown Neighborhood Plan
    Philadelphia, PA

Coming at the heels of new, large scale, market-rate investment on the community’s western edge, the 2006 Brewerytown Neighborhood Plan’s primary goals were to strengthen local grass-roots involvement while developing creative strategies to leverage the private investment for the benefit of the entire community.

Brewerytown’s proximity to Fairmount Park and the struggling commercial corridor along Girard Avenue became the centerpieces of the plan. Housing, green space and streetscape improvements were designed to foster a green neighborhood and invite new residents and visitors to the neighborhood to support local retail services. Complementary to the proposed physical improvements, the plan identified a range of additional programs that would bring technology, education and workforce preparation to local residents.

In 2010, Interface Studio has been asked to revisit the plan — updating the original document with new data on land use, ownership, and sales; weighing the impact of the dramatic changes in the national housing market in the years since the last planning process; taking into account the successes that have emerged along Girard Avenue; and launching a renewed public outreach campaign to tap growing resident interest and involvement. Stay tuned: the updated plan will be completed in Spring 2010.
