Interface Studio is pleased to announce that the Wicker Park Bucktown Master Plan for six commercial corridors in two hip and gritty, but rapidly changing Chicago neighborhoods received the 2010 National Planning Excellence Award for Public Outreach awarded by the American Planning Association. The Awards Jury Chair, Marie York, FAICP, noted that the planning process, “educated and engaged people, built a stronger sense of community, and captured citizen’s imaginations–all while having fun–and yielded a comprehensive, unique, and high quality Master Plan for the district that reinforces the community’s collective values and goals.”
In addition to this national recognition, the plan also recently won a 2009 Charter Award from the Illinois Chapter of the Congress for New Urbanism and the 2010 Special Achievement Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois.
Mad props and many thanks to our collaborators at Sam Schwartz Engineering and Civic Economics, to our fantastic client–the Wicker Park Bucktown Special Service Area (WPB SSA), and to all of the local participants who came out to contribute their thoughts to the plan!
