Interface Studio is currently undertaking a citywide industrial strategy for the City of Detroit in partnership with the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC). The project is taking a comprehensive look at both the potential industrial economic market but also the industrial land and infrastructure. As a part of the effort, Interface Studio is surveying 11,170 acres, which account for 93% of Detroit’s industrially zoned land.
Funded by The Kresge Foundation, the industrial strategy is one component of the larger Detroit Works project. The 12-18 month planning process, “an evolving roadmap” and “a blueprint for the City,” has already received extensive national media coverage. The result of our work will be a set of policies and strategies intended to maximize the use of industrial land, create jobs and establish a foundation for sustainable economic development in Detroit.
